MRG Mission Statement and Objectives

 

Mission Statement

The mission of The Mississippi Renaissance Garden Foundation, Inc. is to create a "Horticulture for Humanity" botanical garden and horticultural center on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Mississippi Renaissance Garden and Horticultural Center will act as a base for restoring green spaces lost in Hurricane Katrina. It will allow people to reconnect with the environment and honor the spirit of the Mississippi people and the generosity of the recovery volunteers who are making the Renaissance of Mississippi possible.

Objectives

  1. To provide therapeutic gardens and horticultural resources for residents, volunteers and tourists while promoting the recovery of the landscape on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
  2. To promote the spirit and well being of the people in Mississippi during their recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
  3. To develop a centrally located base garden and horticultural center and encourage satellite gardens throughout the coastal areas.
  4. To permanently recognize the many recovery volunteers, sponsors and donors and their efforts in a public area on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
  5. To offer opportunities for residents, volunteers and tourists, to continue their involvement with the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
  6. To provide locals and tourists opportunities to experience the Renaissance of Mississippi through educational programs.
  7. To promote county, city and community interaction and cooperation throughout Harrison, Hancock and Jackson counties.
  8. To encourage participation throughout the gardens and horticultural center for people of all ages and abilities.
  9. To educate local officials, residents and communities to work towards creating and preserving green spaces within our communities, and to encourage beautification of existing commercial, neighborhood and city green spaces.
  10. To provide educational opportunities through interaction with the gardens and horticultural center.
  11. To promote cultural and fine arts opportunities on the Gulf Coast.
  12. To provide information, assistance and materials to individuals and groups wishing to develop neighborhood and home gardens.
